This is a fine example of why we created the PVGA.
Although the following article is from November 2005, it shows the kind of potential that we can achieve by taking our games to the next level.

The Xbox clan, Team Legends beat the PS2 clan, Professional $kills.
The clan games were held remotely until the championship, where they flew in the clans and hooked up the Xbox’s and PS2’s to a central server in the room. It was a 2 game conquest on Backstab. But I can’t find that article to provide references.
Here is an interview with the Legends leader;

So let’s play the games with a Pro Level mentality, with Dignity, Integrity, and Pride. Let’s get recognized and most important,

Battlefield 2 Contest
Kill stuff and win money.
by Charles Onyett
November 1, 2005 - Two questions. Do you like Battlefield 2: Modern Combat? Do you like tons of money? Well, if you answered yes to at least one of those, then you should be interested in Electronic Arts' "Best of the Battlefield" Online Tournament. Provided you have a clan or can scrap one together you'll be able to sign up for this first come, first served competition.
The clans you'll enter need to consist of 10 people and you'll need to register quickly. Though the tournament actually starts on November 21, only 128 clans from each console, PS2 and Xbox, will be allowed in. Though fighting for pride might be enough for some, most are only satisfied with crisp green bills plastered with the faces of Presidents. Recognizing this, EA is offering a grand prize of $250K for the team that wins their platform bracket and the championship. $50K goes to the team that wins their platform bracket but loses the championship, and $10K goes to each team that loses their platform bracket finals.
Assuming you're good enough to snatch the grand prize, each member of your team will be able to take home $25K. That's pretty decent for sitting in front of a television and clicking buttons. The official contest rules are available here. If you don't suck at the game and like winning money, this might be something worth checking out.
